-Tam's Recipe Box
I've got 2 wonderful summertime recipes!
The first is a refreshing pie from the kitchen of June McCord, from Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene.
And the second is like the best chocolate homemade ice cream ever!
I discovered this recipe at Southeastern Holiness Camp in Lizella, GA this summer.
On Wednesday night after service, it's traditionally "homemade ice cream night."
There are literally ice cream churns everywhere! I had "Milky Way Homemade Ice Cream" from the kitchen of
Brittney Wilkes and her mother Melissa Spillers. I knew with my first bite, I had to have this recipe.
I've not had the chance to make this at home yet. Have fun!!!
Strawberry Dream Pie
-2 cups diced strawberries
-1 cup plus 3 tablespoons sugar
-2 (8 oz.) packages cream cheese
-1/2 cup sour cream
-1 envelope Dream Whip (found near Jello)
-Extra serving size graham cracker crust
Dice strawberries and stir in the 3 tablespoons of sugar. Let sit in refrigerator for about an hour for sugar to dissolve and berries to release juices. Whip cream cheese with 1 cup sugar, add sour cream and dream whip. Cream with mixer until light and fluffy. Spoon strawberries into mixture with slotted spoon, then add 2 tablespoons of juice into mixture. Fold in lightly and put into graham cracker crust. Let chill for at least 2 hours.
If you would like to double the recipe, you can make your own graham cracker crust from the directions on graham cracker box, and use a 9x13 pan. Cut into squares.
Garnish with extra berries and cool whip.
Milky Way Homemade Ice Cream
-12 Regular size Milky Way Bars
-1 can Eagle Brand Milk
-1 pint half and half
-1/2 pint whipping cream
-5 1/2 oz. chocolate syrup
-1 tbsp. vanilla
-milk
Cut up candy bars and melt in microwave slowly with Eagle Brand Milk. Be careful not to burn. (Melt completely for smoother ice cream). Cool mixture. Then blend in half and half, whipping cream, chocolate syrup, and vanilla. Place in ice cream container, fill the rest of the container up with milk (to your fill line). Follow directions of your homemade ice cream machine. Enjoy!!!
